Copy for shipping and logistics

Container lines, freight forwarders, terminals and the logistics groups around them — written for an audience that spans a boardroom, a port, and forty thousand employees who do not share a first language.

What we already know before you brief us

  1. 01

    The vocabulary is not interchangeable

A shipper is not a carrier is not a consignee. Reefer, breakbulk, parcelling, intermodal, transhipment and cross-border each mean one thing and are routinely used to mean another. Getting them wrong is the fastest way to lose a technical reader in the first paragraph.

  2. 02

    Internal is harder than external

Intranet copy in this sector reaches agencies in a hundred and fifty countries, read in a second or third language, often on a phone in a yard. Long sentences and clever constructions do not survive that. Plain does.

  3. 03

    The calendar is not yours

A vessel naming, a service launch, a quarterly result, a regatta. The date is set by an event that will not move, so the copy schedule works backwards from it and the review rounds have to be counted in advance.

  4. 04

    Sustainability copy is claims copy

Fuel, emissions intensity, alternative bunkers and scope-three reporting are numbers before they are narrative. Every one of them traces to a figure someone in the business owns, and the sentence must not outrun it.
